Tessa Tessa Amanda AmandaPointe Claire lies in that quiet part of Montreal's West Island. Most people do not know about the definition of the word as they believe that it's an island that is separate from Montreal. In fact, it is a part of the West Island includes the entire area from Lachine to the west. Amanda Brugel was born there, and it is true. But she only stayed for a short time. Brugel grew up in Courtice, outside Oshawa, Ontario. She had a dream to become a dancer in the beginning however, due to a rapid growth spurt she outgrew dance partners. In a piece in the Toronto Star she admitted, "In heels at 6' 1 inch. As I grew older, my male counterparts I cut off. Many former dancers turn into acting. In Bruce's case, it was her encouragement from an instructor in drama at her high school that led her to the path she needed. It was suggested that she audition for a part in her school's production. She tried it out and got the role of leading woman on the show Anne of Green Gables. This resulted in the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and graduated with the Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in 2000.In the 20+ years since, Brugel has landed roles in over 60 shows both on small and big screens. She attracted the most media attention after she got her role as Rita on the award-winning series, The Handmaid's Tale
